Pretzels On The Nutrisystem Diet: Are They Allowed?

I sometimes hear from people who love a specific food and who don't want to give that food up, even if they should chose to begin the Nutrisystem diet. They often want to make sure that they can still have their favorite foods, at least some of the time. I heard from someone who said: "I really want to start Nutrisystem because I think that it would be easy to follow with my work schedule. But, I have to admit that I eat a soft pretzel every day since there's a vending cart by my work that sells particularly delicious ones. Would I still be able to eat pretzels on this diet?"

The answer to this question depends upon how flexible you are about the type of pretzels that you eat. The diet sells prepackaged pretzels that you can order either as part of a package or individually. (And they come in both regular and honey mustard flavors.) You are allowed to have one snack and dessert each day on this diet so you could theoretically chose this snack each day so that you would not have to give up this food. The main reason for this is that this diet item contains a mere 110 calories and 14 grams of carbs. It also contain 8 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber.

When I explained this option, she wanted to know if it was possible to eat her regular pretzel (from the vending cart) as part of her side items that you are allowed to add to each meal each day. You are allowed a "smart carb" side item each day. And, a slice of sourdough bread is listed as an acceptable example of this type of food. But, I would doubt that a large vending cart pretzel is going to be equivalent in calories and carbs as a small slice of sourdough bread. Additionally, it was doubtful that this item was as high in protein and fiber as the diet equivalent. Still, I know plenty of people who treat themselves every once in a while without any horrible outcome. It might be a good compromise to have half a serving or to view this snack as a special and occasional treat while getting her daily pretzel fix with the prepackaged diet option.

So to answer the question posed, the Nutrisystem menu does offer two different types of pretzels. And having those on a regular basis is not a problem at all. They are considered to be a regular snack that is encouraged. But purchasing a non diet option from a vending cart without knowing how many calories or carbohydrates it contains suggest that it would be better for a treat rather than a daily snack, at least while you're on the weight loss phase of the diet.
